Question from a reader:
Will Tsubakuro (the person behind the mascot) ever be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame?
The Possibility of Tsubakuro’s Hall of Fame Induction
Recently, I’ve heard discussions about Tsubakuro’s potential induction into the Hall of Fame. As a baseball fan, I have a special fondness for Tsubakuro, and considering how much joy his presence brings to
so many people, I think it’s a really interesting topic. I’ve been watching baseball since I was a child, growing up with Tsubakuro’s humorous performances. His playful antics in the stadium and sometimes surreal comments have made me laugh countless times. I particularly remember one game when he suddenly started dancing for the fans, causing everyone around to burst into laughter. That moment transformed the atmosphere in the stadium, and I still recall it vividly.
Examining the Criteria for the Hall of Fame
Now, returning to the topic of Hall of Fame criteria, it’s true that the selection standards for special honors include achievements in literature and reporting. However, whether a mascot like Tsubakuro fits into that category is questionable. Nonetheless, the fact that he has entertained audiences in the stadium for over 30 years is a unique achievement that sets him apart from other “affiliated individuals.” There’s no doubt that Tsubakuro has built a relationship with fans and is a beloved figure. If the day comes when he is inducted into the Hall of Fame, it would be a deeply emotional moment for fans. I believe that individuals like Tanibo and the team from Hanshin Gardening should also be recognized for their long-standing support. I hope for the creation of a new category to honor such contributions.
Personal Thoughts
That said, I don’t personally place a strong significance on the “Baseball Hall of Fame.” While being inducted is certainly an honor, I think the most important thing as a fan is to enjoy the moments shared. The laughter and emotions that Tsubakuro and other mascots bring cannot be measured by numbers or records; they are invaluable. If you have any memories or stories about Tsubakuro or other mascots, please share them! Even the smallest anecdotes are welcome. Let’s talk about it together!
