Question from a reader:
Why hasn’t Akashiya Sanma retired despite expressing a desire to do so?
Reflecting on Akashiya Sanma’s Retirement
Recently, I’ve heard that Akashiya Sanma wants to retire. However, seeing him still actively performing makes me wonder why that is. I love comedy too, and I often watch his stand-up and talk shows, so he feels relatable to me.
Intentions of Retirement and What Comes Next
I remember a time when my friends and I used to say, “If we don’t succeed by 30, we’ll retire!” We were young
back then, speaking so innocently. But when I turned 30, I realized that there are still enjoyable experiences waiting ahead. Perhaps Sanma feels something similar. Saying he wants to retire might just be a temporary emotion. He likely has a desire to retire, but at the same time, the validation he feels from being on stage and the support from fans may be what keeps him going. When I see him perform, I’m always struck by his charisma.
Anticipation and Excitement for the Future
As someone who enjoys comedy while raising kids, there are moments when I think, “Wow, this is so much fun!” Watching skits or mimicking stand-up routines with my children has become a part of our family communication. Therefore, it’s wonderful for me that someone like Sanma continues to thrive in his career. Even if the day comes when Akashiya Sanma retires, I believe his laughter will remain in our hearts. As long as he is active, we can continue to enjoy his work.
