Reader’s Question:
I’ve heard for years that the anime PSYCHO-PASS is really interesting, so I finally decided to start watching it. However, I’ve only watched up to episode 4, and I’m not finding it enjoyable. The only things I like are the ending theme song and the name recognition of PSYCHO-PASS.
At what episode does it start to get better? Or should I conclude that it’s just not the right fit for me if I’m not enjoying it at this point?
Finding Your Anime Fit: A Personal Journey
I remember when I first stumbled upon PSYCHO-PASS. The buzz around it was everywhere—friends raved about the gripping story and thought-provoking themes. Naturally, I was excited to dive in. But, oh boy, was I in for a surprise! After binge-watching the first few episodes, I found myself feeling a bit lost. It was kind of like arriving at a party too early—there were a few intriguing characters, sure, but the energy just wasn’t there. I was snacking on popcorn, thinking, “Is this what everyone’s been raving about?” Maybe I had set my expectations too high. One of my buddies, who’s a die-hard fan of psychological thrillers, insisted that I give it at least five episodes. He laughed and said, “Just wait until you see the character development! You’ll be hooked!” But as I sat there with my popcorn, I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching a play where everyone forgot their lines. Eventually, I decided to take a break and watch something lighter. Remembering the times I indulged in comedy specials instead, I realized how refreshing it was to laugh instead of trying to piece together a complex narrative. I think that’s what the reader asking the question is experiencing too. Sometimes, you just click with a show, and sometimes you don’t. I get the appeal of sticking it out—especially when everyone seems to love it. But if those first few episodes aren’t resonating with you, it might be time to explore other options. There are so many amazing anime out there! Have you ever had a similar experience where you just couldn’t connect with something everyone else seemed to love? Maybe you found a hidden gem that turned out to be the perfect fit? I’d love to hear your thoughts or recommendations in the comments!
