Reader’s Question:
Is humanity really something to be afraid of? It’s surprising to learn that people like Nakai-san or the former director of the Hyogo Prefectural Citizens’ Bureau have hidden sides. If their true selves had never been revealed, would they have remained good people in our eyes? Do you think it was good that the truth came out in a
weekly magazine, or is it wrong for those who exposed that information?
Reflecting on the Hidden Faces of Humanity
Hello! Recently, while watching various news stories, I often find myself thinking about how frightening the hidden sides of people can be. Hearing stories about Nakai-san and the former prefectural director makes me realize that those close to us might possess more complex facets than we expect, which is a bit unsettling. I’ve also experienced a moment in the past where I was dating someone without knowing their true self, and I was shocked when I discovered an unexpected side of them one day.
An Unexpected Side of a Friend
This friend and I have known each other since college; he was always bright and fun, the type of person who would tell jokes to lighten the mood whenever we gathered. However, one day he suddenly started talking seriously, which caught me off guard. When I learned about his family background and past experiences, I thought, “He has faced such struggles too,” and it made me see him in a completely different light. But even after hearing that story, he remained the funny person I knew. Sometimes he would even make jokes about those experiences, showing me that he had his own way of coping. People are truly multifaceted, and there are so many things we can’t understand just by looking at the surface.
The Impact of the Internet on Relationships
As mentioned in the comments, negative information tends to stand out online. Sometimes, while scrolling through my social media feed, I find myself overwhelmed by the hidden faces of others and bad news, which can lead to feelings of distrust towards humanity. However, when I meet people in person and spend time with them, I realize that there are indeed many good individuals around. Since my child is still young, I often take them out to play with friends, and seeing the pure smiles of children makes me feel that “people want to believe in the goodness of humanity.” Through interactions with friends and family, I experience many heartwarming moments that remind me that humanity is inherently good.
Share Your Experiences!
In the end, I’ve come to feel that humanity has both frightening aspects and wonderful qualities. I believe that even if we learn about the hidden sides of those around us, it can help us understand them better. So, I’d love for everyone to share their heartwarming stories or surprising discoveries in the comments! Even the smallest things are welcome, and it would be great to share and reflect together, laughing and thinking about our experiences.
