Understanding Why Japanese Politicians, Including Prime Ministers, Lose Power: Key Factors and Insights

Question from readers:
What are the reasons politicians in Japan, especially the Prime Minister, fall from power? I believe the political world is very harsh, and I want to understand why so many people lose their positions.

What Are the Reasons Politicians Fall from Power?

Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of news about Japanese politicians, particularly Prime Ministers, losing their
positions. It really makes me feel how tough the world of power struggles is. When I talk with friends, we often say, “the nail that sticks out gets hammered down,” which I think is absolutely true.

The Harshness of the World of Power

Once you have power, it seems that jealousy and attacks from those around you become unavoidable. Even someone as capable as Abe Shinzo can be brought down for various reasons. I’ve personally experienced this as well; when I held a slightly elevated position at work, I overheard colleagues talking negatively about me, which made me realize that this kind of behavior also happens in the political world. That said, I really feel for politicians. As ordinary people, we just watch the news and wonder, “Why is this happening?” But in reality, there are all sorts of behind-the-scenes maneuvers going on. Especially with the Komeito party being part of the ruling coalition, various interests are definitely intertwined.

Assassination as an Extreme Option

However, the fact that assassination is an extreme option is quite frightening. Of course, such things should never happen, but it highlights the tension and danger inherent in the political world. When I was a child, I was influenced by political dramas on television, which portrayed politicians as glamorous and strong, but now I realize that it’s a life-or-death job.
