Recently, while relaxing at a café with friends, we ended up discussing Weekly Playboy. Everyone was shocked to learn that the price has jumped to 650 yen. I thought, “Wow, that’s quite expensive!” Upon researching, I found that it used to be much cheaper. I was surprised to see comments from readers mentioning past prices: 540 yen in 2020, 420 yen in 2014, 350 yen in 2007, and a mere 280 yen in 1996. The prices are definitely climbing.
Nostalgic Memories and Rising Food Prices
Thinking back to my college days, I remember buying Weekly Playboy with friends at convenience stores and laughing together while reading it late into the night. The manga and features from that time still stick with me. Reflecting on those fun moments makes me think that even if the price has gone up, it might still be worth it. However, it does evoke a bit of sadness. These days, I’m also concerned about rising food prices. For instance, Sapporo ramen used to cost between 600 and 700 yen, but now it’s around 900 to 1000 yen. It seems like the overall cost of living is gradually increasing.
Are Extras and Quality Improvements Impacting Prices?
Weekly Playboy often comes with DVDs as extras, which might be influencing the price. It makes sense that many people buy it for the included features, making content quality even more important. Youth-oriented manga magazines have also reached the 550 yen range, and the cost of paper itself is likely rising too. Still, despite these price hikes, I’m a huge fan of comedy, and as long as there are laughable contents, I’m willing to spend. After all, laughter is nourishment for the soul.
