Question from a reader:
I’ve been feeling that young women these days tend to look down on men. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Thoughts on Women Looking Down on Men
Recently, while out for drinks with friends, we had a conversation about this topic. One friend said, “I feel like young women nowadays look down on men.”
I wonder if others have felt this way too? Personally, I sometimes sense that atmosphere, but what’s the actual situation?
Various Perspectives
One friend mentioned, “Women who don’t underestimate men might be less likely to get involved in dangerous situations.” That’s an interesting perspective. It’s true that among my acquaintances, only a few actually look down on men. The actual ratio is hard to determine, and it’s difficult to judge based solely on appearances. However, I’ve been thinking that the perception that many women look down on men might stem from men being overly conscious of how they’re viewed. When money comes into the conversation, some people suddenly change their attitudes, which may create the impression that they’re “greedy.”
My Experience
I remember going to a comedy show with friends where a male performer had a skit about being “looked down upon by women,” and the audience erupted in laughter. It’s nice to turn such feelings into humor; it can lighten the mood. Hearing those jokes made me feel a sense of empathy, and it was somewhat comforting. That said, I also think it’s not good to hold onto only negative images. Ultimately, our perceptions differ depending on who we meet, and our relationships can change based on how we communicate. As someone with children, I always want to prioritize communication with my partner.
