Question from a reader:
Suzuki Fuku-kun mentioned on X that he prays for the soul of Tsubakuro, but Tsubakuro isn’t deceased, right? Is this a joke? I would also appreciate it if you could share more about Tsubakuro’s character.
The Charm of Tsubakuro and Suzuki Fuku-kun’s Tweet
Recently, I was a bit surprised to hear that Suzuki Fuku-kun tweeted on X
(formerly Twitter) about praying for Tsubakuro’s soul. I thought Tsubakuro was still actively doing well, so I wondered if it was some kind of joke. However, it seems there was some underlying news regarding the person behind the character.
About Tsubakuro’s Character
Tsubakuro is the mascot character of the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, and his unique personality and cute appearance are loved by many fans. His free-spirited behavior and occasionally surreal comments often make the audience laugh, brightening the atmosphere at the stadium. I’ve been to several games, and I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw Tsubakuro interacting with the audience. His distinctive movements and sometimes silly side enhance his charm even more. For instance, there are moments during games when he playfully interacts with players or is asked for autographs by fans, which truly embodies the essence of “Tsubakuro.”
Whether it’s a joke or not…
It’s definitely shocking to hear that the person behind Tsubakuro has passed away. Even if a new person takes over, I can’t help but worry if they will be able to entertain the audience in the same way. Tsubakuro’s unique character is not something that can be easily inherited. I also love characters with humor and charm like Tsubakuro. Sometimes, I want to share the joy of such characters with my own children. Laughter is an important element for kids, after all.
