Understanding the Dynamics of Respect Between Young Women and Men: Building Healthy Relationships

Question from a reader:
Recently, I often feel that young women do not show much respect towards men. Is this just my perception? I wish we could build relationships where we respect each other more.

Thoughts on Respect Between Young Women and Men

Recently, during conversations with friends, the topic came up: “Do young women these days not respect men?” At
first, I thought, “That can’t be right,” but as I listened to various stories, I found myself reflecting more on the issue. For example, a friend shared a story about a date he went on. He acted gentlemanly towards the woman, but she spent the whole time fiddling with her smartphone and casually said, “Shall we move on to the next place?” He felt a bit hurt, thinking, “I’m trying my best, so why is she being so cold?” Indeed, a date is an important time to get to know each other, so it’s disappointing when one is preoccupied with their phone. However, I don’t believe all young women are like that. A woman I recently met, for instance, values respect for men and our conversation was very enjoyable. She said, “I think it’s important to show interest in the other person,” and I really resonated with that. When we can build a relationship based on mutual respect, it naturally creates a good atmosphere.

The Importance of Respect

It’s easy to express respect in words, but putting it into action can be challenging. When I was younger, I struggled with how to interact with women and often tried to present myself in a bigger light, which led to failures. Perhaps because of those experiences, I’ve come to understand the importance of respecting others. As I raise my child, I want to teach him the value of respect. For example, when he plays with friends, I encourage him to value their opinions and sometimes to assert his own. I believe this will help him build wonderful relationships in the future. If anyone has similar stories or experiences, I’d love to hear them! By sharing our experiences, we might be able to build relationships where we respect each other even more. I look forward to your thoughts in the comments!
