Understanding the Connection Between Body Changes and Happiness After Marriage

Question from a reader:
I recently saw photos of Princess Kako after her marriage, and she seemed to have gained a bit of weight. Is this change in body shape a sign of happiness?

Changes in Body Shape and Marriage

Recently, a friend asked me, “It looks like Princess Kako has gained weight after her marriage; is that a sign of
happiness?” Honestly, when I think of Princess Kako, the image of “Princess Kako” comes to my mind. I instinctively replied, “She’s not married yet!” and my friend’s reaction was quite amusing. He continued, “I see, but they say people tend to gain weight after getting married.”

The Connection Between Body Changes and Happiness

Indeed, it’s a common topic that people often experience changes in their body shape after marriage. Especially when you spend more time with a partner, it’s typical for eating habits and lifestyles to change. For instance, I found myself making different food choices unconsciously after I started having lunch with colleagues at the judicial scrivener office. The joy of sharing delicious food is so delightful that it’s easy to overindulge. However, a change in body shape doesn’t necessarily indicate “happiness.” Factors like stress and lifestyle can play significant roles, and individual body types and living environments are also major influences. I have a friend who gained weight while in a relationship, but once they broke up, they quickly slimmed down, which shows just how mysterious life can be.

My Personal Experience

When I first started working part-time at the judicial scrivener office, I immediately entered my first busy season. Caught up in the hustle and bustle, I sometimes skipped lunch or overindulged in snacks, which led to a noticeable weight gain. At that time, my friends joked about my “stress weight,” but looking back, I realize that the experience was enjoyable precisely because we laughed together and supported each other through it.

Share Your Experiences

Ultimately, body shape and health are heavily influenced by personal circumstances and environments. Because of this, I believe comparing ourselves to others isn’t very meaningful. If any of you have stories about changes in body shape or the experiences behind them, I’d love for you to share them in the comments. Let’s enjoy sharing those moments when we felt happy together!
