Honestly, I was surprised by his idea, and it also struck me as somewhat trivial. I wonder if he came up with it as a last-ditch effort.
Putin and Trump’s Perspectives
Imagining how Putin perceives this proposal is somewhat amusing. He likely wants to maintain a friendship that has lasted for 500 years, but with someone like Trump entering the scene, I can only imagine him chuckling wryly. Ukraine is seeking security, but since the West is comprised of NATO member countries, there are complexities that make action difficult. President Zelensky’s recent calls for the creation of a new European army may reflect his sense of urgency. Honestly, this issue is complex. I believe it is urgent to establish a venue for discussions between Russia and Ukraine after a ceasefire agreement, but is that even feasible? While talking with friends, I got a bit heated and inadvertently asked, “Was there such an agreement?” Indeed, there is no guarantee that Russia won’t invade. If anything, it is the absence of such guarantees that may be exacerbating the problem.

Each time I encounter the strength and, conversely, the fragility of human nature, I am reminded that the legal world is a part of human drama.
