Recently, I heard the news about Takashi Tachibana being attacked. When I think about this incident, I can’t help but wonder if going against NHK leads to such situations. After all, NHK holds
significant influence among the Japanese media. Moreover, Mr. Tachibana takes a very direct approach towards NHK, which likely increases his number of adversaries. As someone who enjoys comedy, I feel a sense of familiarity with characters like Mr. Tachibana. Watching his stand-up routines, the seriousness behind his humor is unmistakable. Especially when he addresses issues related to NHK, I find myself thinking, “Ah, perhaps it’s people like him who can bring about change in the world.” However, the attack was truly shocking. If the perpetrator’s reason was merely “because I was bored,” I hope they take a moment to reflect on their life. If they have extra time, they could certainly spend it on more meaningful pursuits. Do they genuinely believe that hurting others is a solution, or were they simply looking to release some pent-up stress? Regardless, violence is never the answer. Furthermore, there are reports linking this to the power harassment issue involving the governor of Hyogo Prefecture, as well as the tragic events that followed concerning prefectural employees. The fact that Mr. Tachibana was supportive of the governor and that there were discussions about accountability among prefectural assembly members resulting in loss of life is deeply painful. The world of politics is indeed harsh, and many issues involve human lives. As a parent, such news causes me great distress. I hope for a better world for my children. While I wish for positive changes brought about by figures like Mr. Tachibana, I also hope that people understand that violence cannot be a solution.
