Up until the Kishida Cabinet, Aso clearly reigned as a “Kingmaker.” His influence was immense, and he was involved in numerous political decisions. However, his position changed a bit when he supported Takagi in the recent presidential election. This was surprising to me as well. It reminded me that candidates I support do not necessarily guarantee success, highlighting the harsh realities of politics.
Aso’s Future and Personal Thoughts
There are views suggesting that Aso may support Takagi or Kobayashi again in the future. Personally, I feel inclined to advise him to consider retiring from politics. At 84 years old, he is quite advanced in age for a politician. His energy and charisma in his youth were remarkable, but I think it’s time for him to pass the baton to a new generation. In fact, while working part-time at a law firm, political discussions occasionally come up. Just the other day, a colleague passionately started talking about Aso’s past statements and actions, which made me chuckle. There were many anecdotes about his humor and unique character. I believe it’s important to approach political discussions with a light-hearted attitude.
