One-Sided Criticism and the Women’s Smile
Recently, a woman made headlines on social media for posting, “I would be happy if there were more things I could enjoy, and if I could spend time laughing.” She had been subjected to one-sided criticism regarding a certain incident, but many were moved by her determination to move forward. I count myself among
them. In a situation where she has been hurt both physically and emotionally, her effort to maintain a positive outlook is commendable. I cannot understand the mindset of those who respond to her post with sarcasm, asking, “Does that mean you’re having fun?” Ultimately, what criteria are they using to criticize her?
Imagining the Suffering of the Victim
Some fans of Nakai-san express sentiments like, “Even though she received a settlement, there are confidentiality obligations,” but have they considered the years she spent in silence? I believe it was a portion of those fans who identified and criticized her. It is indeed abnormal to complain about her regaining her daily life and showing her smile. While some may feel that she was “running away from public conflict,” my heart aches when I think of how she has been forced into silence. I believe she deserves time to smile and enjoy life.
Changes of the Times and the Strength of Women
I wonder if the actions of some fervent fans are only dragging Nakai-san further down. It’s challenging to judge based on common sense, but it seems that those who attack the victim often include extreme believers and misogynists. Especially when I see women from older generations who have been conditioned to believe that “endurance is a virtue,” I feel that a change in the times is indeed necessary. Living in a new era, we have the ability to raise our voices like hers. I want to continue to possess the kindness and strength that supports her. The ability for us to live with smiles is surely important for her as well.
