Question from readers:
I’m surprised that Steven Fulton, who easily lost to Naoya Inoue, became the world featherweight champion so quickly. Is Naoya really so much stronger compared to other fighters?
Reflecting on Naoya Inoue’s Strength
Recently, Naoya Inoue’s strength has been a hot topic. Many people are astonished that Steven Fulton became the world featherweight champion right after losing to
him. I was one of those people. Just how strong is Inoue?
The Fight Between Fulton and Figueroa
Let’s consider Figueroa, from whom Fulton took the title. There are many opinions suggesting that he fought in a state far removed from his true form. Indeed, while watching the match, I could feel that his punches lacked power. This must have significantly impacted the outcome. Normally, we could have expected a much more exciting fight. I remember watching boxing matches with friends during my university days. I recall one moment when a friend exclaimed, “This fighter isn’t landing any punches!” and everyone burst into laughter. He was genuinely cheering for the fighter, but his punches were so weak that it became a joke. Moments like these make watching fights truly enjoyable.
The True Strength of Inoue
Returning to Inoue, the reason he is called a “Monster” is undoubtedly due to his overwhelming speed and sharpness. Of course, just like in the Fulton fight, it’s important not to force exchanges and to stick to one’s own style. In fact, when he fights in his true style, his performance is outstanding. I, too, balance my part-time job as a judicial scrivener with studying and hobbies. Maintaining my style amidst a busy schedule is challenging, but there’s a sense of accomplishment that comes with it. Watching Inoue’s fights resonates with me, as I see parallels in my own efforts.
Conclusion
Inoue certainly stands apart from other fighters, and that is a result of his own hard work. Like Fulton, other fighters are battling in their own circumstances. While looking forward to future matches, I also want to continue putting in my effort. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Inoue and boxing, so please feel free to share your comments. I would be delighted to hear your experiences and opinions. Insights from your boxing journey or stories about other sports are also very welcome!
