Question from a reader:
When watching ZIP, I can’t help but notice the nods and business smiles of Mizuto Asami, especially when a VTR is playing. Doesn’t it sometimes make you feel a bit nauseous?
Thoughts on the Background of Wipe
Recently, while watching TV, I’ve found my attention drawn to the expressions of Mizuto Asami on the wipe. Particularly her
nods and business smiles during VTR segments. Admittedly, watching those can sometimes feel a bit off-putting, but when considering the circumstances behind it, I can see things from a different perspective.
The Pressure Behind the Smile
I once heard a story about a show where a participant, unaware of being on the wipe, ended up showing a blank expression. In that moment, they faced a barrage of criticism from viewers. Given that, it’s understandable why maintaining a smile is often expected. I also work part-time at a judicial scrivener’s office and sometimes find it challenging to put on a business smile for clients. I remember one time at work, I got a little too carried away with snacks before a client arrived, trying to ease my nerves. I can’t forget the panic of welcoming a client while my mouth was stuffed with chocolate! Making a smile can truly be a struggle.
The Impact of Wipe
I sometimes wonder if wipes are really necessary. When a discussion is unfolding in the video, having reactions from others displayed in a corner can feel a bit intrusive. As a viewer, I genuinely want to enjoy the content directly. However, on the flip side, showing the reactions of participants through wipes can help bridge the gap between them and the audience. Being able to empathize or laugh along with their reactions might indeed be one of the appealing aspects of the show.
I Want to Hear Everyone’s Opinions
Ultimately, opinions on the existence of wipes are divided. From my perspective, there are parts I really relate to, while others might feel completely different. I’d love to hear what everyone thinks, so please share your thoughts in the comments. I’d be happy if you could also share your own experiences and feelings!
