Understanding Consent and Authenticity in School Prank Shows: A Deep Dive

Question from a reader:
Regarding the monitoring program that pulls pranks at schools, I think it’s impressive that everyone agreed to show their faces. Are the ones being pranked just extras pretending to be regular people?

The Behind-the-Scenes of Prank Shows and Face Reveals

Recently, I watched a monitoring program that pulls pranks at schools. I find it quite remarkable that
everyone agreed to show their faces, especially when children are involved, as it can be a source of concern for parents. This made me want to consider the issue from a legal perspective.

About Consent for Face Reveals

Since I have three children, we often receive requests for consent to show their faces during school events. At the start of the school year or during enrollment, surveys are distributed regarding face reveals on television or websites. When I think about it, I realize that the school is being considerate. Particularly, there are children of parents who belong to talent agencies, which may complicate their ability to give consent. As a result, schools sometimes take measures to ensure that these children do not appear on camera or apply mosaic effects. I personally become sensitive when it comes to my children being filmed. There was a time when I felt anxious during coverage of a school event, worrying that my child might be shown. In the end, they were blurred out, which relieved my worries. Such considerations allow parents to feel more secure.

The Existence of Extras

There are questions about whether the people being pranked are extras, but I believe there are many regular individuals involved as well. However, given the nature of the show, there might be some brief acting lessons beforehand. That level of genuine reaction cannot be achieved by just any extra. Considering that, I can imagine that producing such a show is quite challenging. In the past, I once pulled a prank on a friend. I found it hilarious to see how surprised he was, completely unaware of what was happening, and we all ended up laughing together. While pranks can be frightening at times, they also create bonds between people.
