Reader’s Question:
After watching all the anime from the original series to ZZ, I just finished watching Char’s Counterattack. I’m really confused about Char’s character in the movie. On one hand, he seems to want to eliminate people who are drawn to the corrupted Earth Federation and the polluted Earth, which
aligns with his desire to follow in the footsteps of Zeon Daikun and innovate humanity. But at the same time, he clearly wants to settle things with Amuro regarding Lalah, and it feels like he’s conflicted about his radical approach, like dropping asteroids. Is that why he acted the way he did in the film? Also, did he become the leader of Neo Zeon because he couldn’t forgive the loss of his friends from the Argama era or the fact that Camille suffered a mental breakdown because of him? Can someone help me make sense of these mixed feelings? By the way, unrelated to my confusion, I personally found Z and ZZ to be the most interesting. Camille really resonated with me as a protagonist, and Zeta Gundam is just so cool, with an amazing soundtrack and opening. ZZ, on the other hand, shifts from the serious tone of Z to a comedic feel in the first half, especially with Yazan, which made me laugh out loud. I loved that balance. Judau is also an incredibly charming protagonist, and I enjoyed the interactions within the Gundam team. Plus, I found Plu to be adorable. The moment when Judau gently touches foreheads with her, showing his care, really hit me. Judau feels like a reliable older brother, leading everyone well. In shows like Seed, there’s a sense of security knowing the main heroine won’t die, but in Z and ZZ, even strong characters like enhanced humans face harsh fates. I really wished Plu could have survived, but I’ve heard there are various scenarios in Super Robot Wars, so I’d love to try that out. I’ve written a lot of scattered thoughts, and I still have more to say, but I’ll stop here for now. I apologize for rambling. I look forward to your responses!
Understanding Char in Char’s Counterattack
Hey there! I just had to chime in after reading your thoughts on Char’s Counterattack. It’s such a complex film, and Char’s character is layered with contradictions that keep us guessing, right? So, on one hand, you nailed it—Char wants to rid the world of the Earth Federation’s corruption, which he sees as a necessary step for humanity’s evolution. It’s almost like he believes that to innovate humanity, he needs to make these drastic moves. But then, there’s that emotional turmoil, especially when it comes to Amuro and Lalah. You can really see how his personal vendetta clashes with his grand ambitions. It’s as if he’s torn between his ideals and his personal grief, which makes him act in such a radical way, like using asteroids as weapons. It’s tragic, really. And about him becoming Neo Zeon’s leader—yeah, I think you’re spot on. The trauma from losing his friends and the guilt over Camille’s breakdown definitely weigh heavily on him. He feels responsible for the chaos and suffering that unfolds, which only complicates his already conflicted psyche. He’s trying to carry the legacy of Zeon Daikun while grappling with his own failures. It’s a heavy burden to bear, and it manifests in those extreme actions.
My Experience with Zeta and ZZ Gundam
Now switching gears, I totally get your love for Z and ZZ! Camille is such a fantastic protagonist—his development, his struggles, and that amazing soundtrack really pull you in. I mean, who doesn’t get pumped when the Zeta Gundam theme hits? And ZZ taking that comedic turn in the first half was a bold move. I found myself laughing at Yazan’s antics, which is so refreshing after the heavy tones of Z. Judau is such a relatable character, too! I love how he balances being a charming leader while also being that reliable older brother figure. That moment with Plu—when he gently touches foreheads with her—was so sweet. It really highlighted his caring nature, don’t you think? It’s those little interactions that add depth to the characters and make you invest in their journey. And oh man, the unpredictability of Z and ZZ! It’s like you’re on this emotional rollercoaster where even the strongest characters can face grim fates. I felt that pang of hope for Plu, wishing she could have had a happier ending. I’ve also heard about the alternate scenarios in Super Robot Wars, and I’m intrigued! I think exploring those would be a fun way to dive back into that universe. I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts, and it’s always great to connect with fellow fans who resonate with these characters and stories. I’d love to hear more about your favorite moments or any tips you have for diving deeper into the Gundam series. Let’s keep the conversation going!
