Top Artists We Want to See at NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen 2023: A Celebration of Music and Memories

Question from Readers:
Is there a singer you would like to see perform in this year’s NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen?

Thoughts on the Kohaku Uta Gassen

Recently, I was chatting with friends about the Kohaku Uta Gassen, and we got really excited discussing this year’s performers. It was especially enjoyable to talk about the monitor performances of deceased artists. Listening to
the voices of Misora Hibari and Murashita Kouzou really warms the heart. I completely understand the desire to feel the atmosphere of the good old days.

Artists Old and New

Additionally, I would love to see current artists like Official Hige Dandism, Ado, and Chanmina perform! I’m particularly eager to see Ado’s performance live at least once. Her singing has a unique intensity, and just imagining what kind of staging she would bring to the Kohaku stage is thrilling. And then there’s my personal favorite, Yamashita Tatsuro. His music is especially appealing during the winter months. The song “Christmas Eve,” which plays during the Christmas season, is a classic. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Onyanko Club’s formation, and I would be overjoyed to see a medley from them.

Hosts and Performances

The idea of Kanna Hashimoto being a host is also interesting! Her bright personality seems like it would really elevate the Kohaku atmosphere. Plus, the thought of K-pop groups showcasing their performances is something that brings a smile, right? After all, visually entertaining performances are important. Every year, I look forward to watching the Kohaku with my family while enjoying snacks together. I often end up eating too much, and by the end, my stomach is usually quite full. But that’s just part of the fun of the Kohaku experience!
