Tatsuji Joichiro’s match in 1991 remains etched in the memory of many fans. The moment he knocked out Greg Richardson was truly breathtaking. I
recall watching that fight and being unable to help but exclaim, “Incredible!” Joichiro’s movements were fluid, embodying both power and beauty. However, when considering whether Joichiro could be one of the PFP fighters, it does require some contemplation. At that time, the bantamweight division was dominated by Kani Zares, and while Joichiro was undoubtedly a remarkable fighter, he may not quite measure up when compared to fighters like Inoue and Hasegawa.
Thoughts as a Fan
There’s no denying that I am a fan of Joichiro, but when I think about it calmly, there were indeed several draws and losses in his career. The draw against Abraham Torres raises some questions about gauging his true ability. Of course, every fighter has their own background and circumstances, so it can’t be generalized, but to break into the top 30 of PFP, perhaps some standout achievements were necessary.
