Reader’s Question:
Is it now essential for female voice actors to have social media or blogs? I’ve heard scary rumors that the number of followers can impact job opportunities. But it seems like it might not matter much after turning 30. I’m surprised that Shizuka Ishigami started so late.
Is Social Media
a Must for Voice Actors?
You know, I’ve been thinking a lot about the whole social media thing and how it relates to voice acting, especially for women in the industry. It’s kind of wild to think that your follower count could influence your job opportunities! I mean, I remember when I was in college, and we were all about that “just let your work speak for itself” vibe. But now? It feels like you need a solid online presence just to get noticed. I recently had a chat with a friend who’s really into voice acting. She mentioned that for idol voice actors, having a blog or an active social media account is pretty much a given. It’s like the new audition – you’ve got to showcase your personality and charm to attract fans and, ultimately, the industry. I can’t help but chuckle at how different things are now compared to when I was growing up. Back then, we were more focused on the craft, but now it seems like every aspiring voice actor has to be a mini influencer before they even get a chance to step into the studio. And then there’s Shizuka Ishigami. I was surprised to hear she started her social media journey relatively late. It got me thinking – maybe there’s still hope for the rest of us who might not be social media whizzes. But then again, can you really afford to wait? It’s such a double-edged sword. Speaking of surprises, I once arrived way too early for a comedy show, thinking I’d snag the best seat. Instead, I ended up chatting with the opening act about how he navigates the industry. He joked about how he spends more time on social media than actually honing his craft. It was hilarious, but also a bit of a reality check. The world has changed, and so have the rules. I guess we all have to find our balance, right? I’d love to hear what you all think about this! Do you feel social media is essential for voice actors?
