Reader’s Question:
Does the decline of Yoshimoto Kogyo and Johnny & Associates mean the decline of the entire television industry?
Changes in the Television Industry and My Thoughts
Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about Yoshimoto Kogyo and Johnny & Associates. I’m often thinking about what their decline means for the broader television industry. I love comedy, and I’ve
received so much joy from their work, which makes my feelings quite complex.
My Perspective
Indeed, the decline of Yoshimoto Kogyo and Johnny & Associates is significant news, but I don’t necessarily believe it means the entire television industry will decline. When I watch recent television programs, I can strongly feel the influence of other media, such as YouTube and streaming services. For instance, my child loves anime and characters that can now be enjoyed freely online, not just on television. In a way, this means there are new ways to enjoy entertainment. The other day, I went to a live comedy show with a friend, and I was overwhelmed by the energy in the venue. Experiencing laughter in person is truly special. The moments when the audience laughs together create a unique experience that can’t be replicated on television. Moreover, many young comedians are using social media to showcase their styles, and I look forward to their new forms of comedy.
The Fusion of Television and Other Media
Thinking about it, rather than a decline, the television industry might actually be “evolving.” In the past, television was the sole source of entertainment, but now we have various options. For example, I’ve recently enjoyed finding interesting comedy skits online with my child. Sometimes we even watch classic Yoshimoto performances together and share laughs. Those moments of laughter have become cherished times that strengthen our bond.
