Question from Readers:
“I’ve heard that Myakumyaku is cute, but could you tell me specifically what makes it cute?”
The Cuteness of Myakumyaku: My Perspective
Recently, I received a question about Myakumyaku, and to be honest, at first, I thought, “Is this really cute?” I mean, those eyes are a bit creepy, right? When I first saw the design sketches, I
was like, “Hmm, I’m not so sure about this…” And then, when it turned into a 3D figure, it seemed to become even more unsettling. However, there might be moments when Myakumyaku has a certain charm. For instance, I remember seeing a child looking at a Myakumyaku plush toy with sparkling eyes, exclaiming, “So cute!” In that moment, I felt a strange sense of warmth too. When viewed through a child’s pure perspective, there may be an appeal that we adults can’t see.
Encounters with Interesting Characters
Speaking of which, I’ve heard that Sentokun also didn’t have a great reputation during the design phase. But when it was finally brought to life, it gained a certain charm and became well-accepted, which is quite impressive. Characters like these can often be initially met with skepticism—“What is this?”—but over time, they can grow on us. I remember when I was younger, going to see a new comedy movie with friends. At first, I was thinking, “I wonder if this will be funny?” But then there came a moment when I just couldn’t stop laughing. It’s interesting how something can capture your heart, contrary to your initial impression.
