The Genius of Yuzuru Hanyu, Shohei Ohtani, Naoya Inoue, and Sota Fujii: Talent vs. Effort in Sports Excellence

Question from a reader:
Do you think Yuzuru Hanyu, Shohei Ohtani, Naoya Inoue, and Sota Fujii are truly geniuses? When I look at their talents and achievements, it feels like they possess something different from ordinary people. What are your thoughts?

The Balance Between Genius and Effort

Lately, I’ve had many opportunities to discuss Yuzuru Hanyu, Shohei Ohtani, Naoya Inoue, and
Sota Fujii. Especially when observing their talents and achievements, I can’t help but feel that they are different from ordinary individuals. Everyone calls them “geniuses,” but I’ve often wondered with my friends what secrets lie behind their success.

The Balance of Talent and Effort

I once told a friend, “Ohtani is truly a genius!” and he replied, “No, he’s a bundle of effort.” Indeed, maintaining such remarkable performance requires extraordinary dedication. I believe that managing both pitching and hitting at such a high level, like Ohtani does, is impossible without more than just talent. Naoya Inoue is also continuing to set unprecedented records. When watching his matches, his focus and unique qualities really come through. I still remember the excitement I felt with my friends when he scored a knockout, and I couldn’t help but shout, “This is boxing!”

The Future of Hanyu and Fujii

Hanyu is often referred to as a “genius” due to his Olympic gold medal, yet when we look at his actual results, he has faced many defeats. While discussing with friends, one mentioned, “Hanyu is a genius, but he has lost many times, so effort is still necessary,” and I found that quite insightful. I also have high hopes for Sota Fujii, but I’m curious whether he can break the records set by Yoshiharu Hanyu.

Ultimately, What Matters?

Throughout our discussions, I felt that the balance between “genius” and “effort” is crucial. Of course, they possess exceptional talents, but how much effort they put in to bring out that talent is what leads them to their current positions. Sometimes, while enjoying snacks with friends, I realize that while effort can be tough, the joy and growth that come after are truly rewarding. So, what do you think?
