Question from Readers:
What kind of person is Sominkyo-kun? It seems that Nakata-kun came in second place, but is he really that amazing? Also, from what I saw on Mezamashi TV, there are many empty seats at venues outside of Japan. Is it because figure skating is still considered a minor sport globally?
The Allure of Figure Skating and Sominkyo-kun
Recently,
figure skating has been a hot topic, especially with Sominkyo-kun’s remarkable performances drawing attention. Learning that he is the defending champion has piqued my interest even more. When I first saw his routine, I was amazed by the quality of his jumps and the beauty of his performance. His upper body movement was particularly impressive, and his edge work was refined.
Differences in Figure Skating Between Japan and Abroad
The noticeable empty seats at venues outside Japan might be due to figure skating still being a relatively minor sport on a global scale. Watching recent competitions, I felt that the atmosphere in overseas venues seemed a bit lonely. In Japan, there are many enthusiastic fans who truly support the performances of the athletes. I believe Japan’s culture of cheering is truly remarkable.
Differences in Composition Between Min-kyu and Nakata
Min-kyu’s short program featured a challenging combination of 3Lz+3T, while Nakata’s routine included the rare combination of 3T+3T. In the world of figure skating, these technical differences can have a significant impact on the results. Although Min-kyu has not yet mastered a quadruple jump, I was captivated by his beautiful performance. His costume was also striking, reminiscent of Hanyu’s “Rose”.
My Experience with Figure Skating
I personally haven’t had much experience with figure skating, but I was recently invited by a friend to watch a competition. I was moved by the athletes’ performances and couldn’t help but applaud. The sense of unity in the audience was indescribable. After the event, my friend and I enjoyed some delicious sweets while discussing the athletes’ efforts and passion. The sweet treats and the laughter we shared remain vivid in my memory. If any of you have had the chance to watch figure skating, I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Which athletes left an impression on you? What performances resonated with you? Please share in the comments; I’m looking forward to hearing your stories!
