Question from a reader:
I don’t think educated individuals would engage in defamation against Watanabe Nagisa. What do you think?
Reflecting on the Relationship Between Education and Defamation
Recently, the issue of defamation against Watanabe Nagisa has been a hot topic. Some argue that educated individuals wouldn’t behave in such a manner, but is that really true?
The Human Heart
That Education Alone Cannot Resolve
From my experience, even with a solid education, a person’s inherent personality and environment can lead to changes in behavior. While spending time in university, I recall a friend mentioning during a gathering, “Sometimes I find myself getting emotionally charged after seeing defaming comments online.” It was surprising to see this side of him, as he is usually a calm and rational person. Hearing my friend’s words made me realize the significant influence of the internet and social media. Especially during stressful times, there may be a psychological tendency to attack others as a way to alleviate one’s own feelings. Perhaps the reason he felt stressed was due to challenges he was facing in his daily life.
The Unexpected Relationship Between Stress and Defamation
Conversely, even individuals leading stable lives can engage in defamation. When everything is going well, they may develop heightened expectations of others, leading to disappointment and, subsequently, aggressive behavior. I have found myself in such situations before, like when I missed an appointment with a friend or arrived too early at a café and ended up alone. Those moments of stress sometimes made me cold towards others. Through such experiences, I’ve come to realize that while education is indeed important, it alone cannot fully pacify the human heart. The influences of interpersonal relationships and the environment in which we live also play a significant role in defamation.
Lastly, I’d Love to Hear Everyone’s Opinions
What do you all think about this issue? I believe it’s not guaranteed that educated individuals will refrain from defamation, and it often prompts reflections on aggressive behaviors stemming from stress. If you have similar experiences or thoughts, please share them in the comments. I hope we can all engage in this discussion together.
