Question from readers:
What do you think about Tanaka Kei’s declaration of sobriety? Can we really trust him?
Declaration of Sobriety and Its Background
Recently, I heard the news that Tanaka Kei has declared sobriety. Honestly, I’ve heard declarations of sobriety multiple times before, so it’s hard not to be skeptical. I can relate a bit to his feelings because whenever
I go out drinking with friends, I often say, “I’m done with alcohol!” only to find myself drinking again the next day due to the atmosphere.
Acknowledging One’s Weakness
I think making a declaration of sobriety is important, but actually putting it into action is quite challenging. Especially since drinking occasions are filled with fun memories, it’s easy to succumb to temptation. Even when I resolve to not drink, I often find myself reaching for a beer before I know it. Regarding Tanaka Kei’s infidelity, I believe that alcohol wasn’t the cause. It’s crucial to take responsibility for one’s actions, and blaming alcohol seems a bit off. Therefore, whether his declaration of sobriety can truly be realized depends on his own efforts.
Relationship with Alcohol
There was one day when I decided, “I will definitely not drink today!” That was on the day of a friend’s wedding. However, as everyone around me was having fun, I found it tough to just drink water… In the end, after the toast, I ended up having just one beer. But in that moment, seeing everyone else enjoy themselves made me realize that drinking isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Alcohol can be a tool for sharing joy, so I think it’s important to consider how we use it. Of course, we need to be careful not to drink too much.
