Understanding Novak’s Hesitation: Why Did He Choose Not to Aim for Duraka’s Neck in Animechi?

I have a question after watching Animechi. When Duraka was escaping from the church, he was stabbed by Novak, but why didn’t Novak aim for his neck? Could it be that he couldn’t bring himself to kill him because he saw his own daughter in him?
