Question from a reader:
Who has been more successful in Hollywood, Shun Oguri or Tomohisa Yamashita? I’m curious about this.
Who is More Successful in Hollywood: Shun Oguri or Tomohisa Yamashita?
Recently, a friend asked me, “Who do you think is more successful in Hollywood, Shun Oguri or Tomohisa Yamashita?” To be honest, neither of them can be considered truly successful yet.
However, I was a bit surprised when I heard that Yamashita’s drama, in which he starred in France, won an International Emmy Award. Recognition on an international stage will certainly support his career.
The Reality of Hollywood
Hollywood is a dream stage, but it also presents harsh realities. Many actors strive to succeed, and it’s not easy to stand out among them. Both Shun Oguri and Tomohisa Yamashita enjoy immense popularity in Japan, but their endeavors abroad represent a whole different challenge. Overcoming language and cultural barriers is likely a significant hurdle for them. While working at a judicial scrivener’s office, I once spoke with a foreign client who mentioned that he often watches Japanese dramas and movies. He said his favorite actor is Shun Oguri and praised his acting skills. However, when the conversation shifted to recognition in Hollywood, it was Tomohisa Yamashita’s name that came up, which was quite striking.
An Unexpected Discovery
Interestingly, I realized something during discussions with friends: to land roles in Hollywood films, having acting talent alone isn’t enough; marketing and self-promotion are crucial as well. It became clear to me that utilizing social media and building an international network are essential. Particularly nowadays, with the ability to promote oneself online, actors have more opportunities than ever. In my own daily work, I’m required to deepen my knowledge of the law, but I also feel that sharing my opinions is important from time to time. That’s why I want to hear from all of you. What are your thoughts on Shun Oguri and Tomohisa Yamashita? Please share your comments on their activities in Hollywood, including your impressions or memories. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
