Question from a reader:
What do you think about Takashi Tachibana from the NHK Party? Should he refrain from making speeches in the future?
Thoughts on Takashi Tachibana’s Speeches
Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about the news that Takashi Tachibana was shot and injured in the ear. There are various opinions circulating about what he should do regarding
his future speech activities. I’d like to share my thoughts on this issue.
Risks Involved in Speech Activities
Firstly, it’s clear that street speeches come with risks. Especially for politicians like Tachibana who make provocative statements, the danger is significantly heightened. As we learn about the law, we often seek to find “loopholes,” and the same can be said in political activities. While there are mixed opinions about his approach, I personally believe he should engage in his activities with a bit more calmness. I recall an experience when I worked at a judicial scrivener’s office, where I encountered clients trying to exploit legal loopholes. At that time, I was somewhat taken aback but ultimately realized how important it was to find solutions within the legal framework. I hope Tachibana can similarly conduct his activities while respecting the law.
Injuries to Reputation and Their Impact
Following the shooting incident, some argue that, similar to presidential candidates in other countries, Tachibana may gain support as a result. However, considering his past actions, I don’t think it will be that straightforward. Unless he shows some reflection on his behavior, I feel it will be difficult for him to gain support. I myself have felt a sense of danger during street speeches. There was a day when I arrived early at a venue and felt nervous observing my surroundings. During that time, I was distracted by a nearby stall selling okonomiyaki, and I ended up buying some to satisfy a small hunger. I remember feeling awkward when my stomach growled during the speech, drawing the attention of those around me.
Concerns About Copycat Offenders and Future Activities
There are also concerns about potential copycat offenders. It is somewhat valid to think that no matter how much you appeal to such individuals, it may be futile. I am very curious about how Tachibana will continue his activities moving forward. If refraining from street speeches can ensure even a little safety, that might be the best course of action. As we reflect on this issue, we also need to revisit the risks and responsibilities of political activities. What does everyone think? If you have any opinions or stories regarding Tachibana’s future actions, please share them in the comments. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
