Question from Readers:
Is it true that right-wing individuals support Aiko’s ascension to the throne and endorse the idea of a female emperor? Additionally, is it also true that right-wing people view the Akishino family as adversaries?
The Relationship between Right-Wing Groups, Aiko, and the Akishino Family
Recently, there has been increasing talk about the right-wing supporting Aiko’s ascension to the
throne while opposing the Akishino family. I decided to reflect on this complex issue, which is more intricate than we might think.
The Relationship between Aiko and Right-Wing Groups
While there are voices within the right-wing that wish for Aiko’s ascension, they represent a minority. Their strong stance prioritizes the traditional male-line imperial lineage. Therefore, the possibility of Aiko ascending the throne, which could disrupt the male lineage, leads them to adopt a cautious approach. The importance of the unbroken imperial line underpins their beliefs, making it difficult for them to support Aiko’s ascension.
Views on the Akishino Family
Reactions from the right-wing towards the Akishino family are diverse. Some individuals express support for the Akishino family as the next candidates for the throne, while others feel uneasy about their actions and attitudes. In particular, while there are many hopeful voices regarding Prince Hisahito’s future, it is also true that the Akishino family’s perceived frivolous behavior has incited anger among right-wing groups. In my own understanding of right-wing perspectives, I feel that their patriotism and respect for tradition are important. However, when such sentiments become extreme, they can sometimes lead to excessive actions. There are frequent discussions about right-wing groups being linked to violent organizations, but one must question if that is the entirety of the situation.
My Thoughts
As I ponder this issue, I have come to recognize the diversity of opinions among people. Both the right and the left have their own sentiments, and opinions often intersect. Among my friends, there are those who hold right-wing opinions but are still able to engage in calm discussions. Talking with such friends sometimes leads to laughter or surprising discoveries. For instance, the other day, while discussing right-wing opinions with a friend at a café, our conversation became so lengthy that we ended up eating too many snacks and feeling uncomfortable. I believe such trivial moments are significant in the exchange of ideas.
