Question from a reader:
I was very surprised to hear about the passing of Minomonta-san. His presence as a host and on television was truly impressive. Given that he was loved by many, I believe his death is significant news. How does everyone feel about it?
Memories of Minomonta-san and His Impact
Upon hearing the news of Minomonta-san’s passing, I was
honestly taken aback. His presence and hosting style were indeed special. Having watched him on television since childhood, I felt as if a part of myself had been lost.
Memories of “Omoikkiri Television”
We often watched “Omoikkiri Television,” which Minomonta-san hosted, at my home. I particularly remember the moments when he would address viewers as “ojousan” (young lady). There was an indescribable warmth in that. He was particularly good at capturing the hearts of middle-aged women. I recall that there was even a societal phenomenon where cocoa became sold out. I remember my mother hurriedly going to buy some, saying, “They say it’s good for your health, so go get it!”
Impressive Episodes
There were times when Minomonta-san had unexpected little happenings on the show. For example, the moments when he would make a light joke to guests that would unexpectedly result in uproarious laughter in the studio. I loved those moments. His sense of humor was indeed special. However, for someone like me who hasn’t been watching television recently, he felt a bit distant. After not seeing his face for a while, hearing his name again feels strangely nostalgic. There’s no doubt he was beloved by many, and his influence is immeasurable.
My Feelings
Minomonta-san’s passing is certainly sad news, but the impact and memories he left behind will continue to live on. I may not have known him deeply, but I feel he left something warm in my heart. At the age of 80, it seems too soon, but I believe he lived a fulfilling life. In closing, if anyone has memorable people or episodes from television or comedy that have stuck with you, I would love to hear about them. Any small memory is welcome! Please share your stories with me.
