Question from readers:
Who are some people recognized as geniuses? I think of Shohei Ohtani, Yuzuru Hanyu, Naoya Inoue, and Sota Fujii, but who else comes to mind?
Thinking About What Genius Means
When mentioning people considered geniuses, names like Shohei Ohtani, Yuzuru Hanyu, Naoya Inoue, and Sota Fujii immediately come to mind. They each showcase remarkable talents in their respective
fields and inspire many. Recently, while working part-time at a judicial scrivener’s office, a senior mentioned, “Genius requires not only effort but also luck,” which left a strong impression on me. Indeed, I feel that not only talent but also timing and environment are significant.
Past Geniuses
Considering previous generations, there are many great figures like Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, Yoshiharu Habu, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Takeshi Kitano, Sadaharu Oh, and Shigeo Nagashima. Mentioning these names makes me feel personally influenced by their achievements. Particularly, Yoshiharu Habu, as a genius in the world of shogi, has been loved across generations. I often refer to his game records when playing shogi. Following his thought process is as enjoyable as solving a puzzle.
My Genius Experience
The other day, while chatting with a friend at a café, he said, “The happiest moments are when I’m immersed in what I love.” At that moment, I realized that for me, being deeply engrossed in studying judicial scrivener work or reading is precisely that. Geniuses share a common trait of dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to what they love. My desire to specialize in a specific area of law in the future has grown stronger. However, there are times when I arrive too early and end up waiting in front of the café or indulge a bit too much in snacks. These small missteps might lead to further growth.
