Question from a reader:
I’ve heard that Okada Sayaka made some statements recently. What exactly did she say? I’m curious if there were any inappropriate comments or apologies.
Thoughts on Okada Sayaka’s Statements
Recently, the content of Okada Sayaka’s statements has sparked controversy. It was reported that she said something along the lines of, “Can you speak up? You don’t even
understand Mahjong,” during a live stream, and honestly, I was surprised. Considering that she is a professional Mahjong player, it makes me think that such comments might have slipped out because of her passion for the game.
A Time When the Truth Isn’t Always Welcome
In today’s world, stating the truth doesn’t always yield positive outcomes. There have been moments when I spoke too honestly while chatting with friends and later thought, “I shouldn’t have said that.” While it would be great if such moments could be turned into laughter, it can be quite challenging at times. Okada’s comments may have stemmed from her frustration with a reporter who isn’t well-versed in Mahjong. However, we must remember that not choosing our words carefully, especially in public settings, can lead to significant backlash. I try to be mindful of my language in my daily life as well.
My Opinion and Feelings
Personally, I can understand her feelings, and I think her statements reflected her pride as a Mahjong professional. Yet, words carry weight, and the way they are received can vary greatly, leading to differing opinions. When something is labeled a faux pas, it can often lead to the need for an apology, which I find truly challenging. If I ever have the opportunity to appear in the media, I realize I need to be cautious. Especially since I often talk while eating, I might end up saying something I shouldn’t! (laughs)
