Memories of Yoshida Yoshio and 1985

When talking about Yoshida Yoshio, the championship win of the Hanshin Tigers in 1985 inevitably comes to mind. Personally, I was a Giants fan that
year, so I remember watching the excitement around me with a somewhat detached perspective. Every time my friends cheered, saying, “Hanshin won!” I found myself thinking, “What’s there to be so happy about?” Looking back now, I feel nostalgic for that fervor and passion of the time. One particularly memorable episode involving Yoshida is the FA meeting with Kiyohara. His remark, “I want you to come even if I have to change from stripes to checks,” is a classic quote that encapsulates his humor and passion. Typically, one would approach an FA player with more seriousness, but Yoshida cleverly turned that around, inviting him with a sprinkle of humor, which was truly impressive.

Events at My Part-Time Job

Recently, while working part-time at a judicial scrivener’s office, a colleague was sharing stories about Yoshida. He’s a big fan and wears his uniform to work every time there’s a Hanshin game. Watching him, I realize how powerful sports can be—they connect people and create shared memories. I also reminisced about games I watched with friends and found myself smiling. There was even a time when I indulged in snacks a bit too much during work, which affected my productivity in the afternoon. After work, my colleagues and I would laugh together, saying, “We really overdid it,” while sharing stories about Yoshida. I believe that sharing these memories deepens our bonds.
