Question from a Reader:
Has there ever been a time when SMAP’s songs made you feel bad because of Nakai-kun’s influence? I felt a sense of disgust when one of their songs played as background music. Am I the only one?
About SMAP’s Songs and Their Influence
Recently, when I went to karaoke with friends, we ended up singing SMAP’s songs.
Everyone was having a great time, but at one moment, Nakai-kun’s recent news flashed through my mind, and I felt a bit uneasy. Even songs I usually love can evoke complex feelings in situations like this. My friends expressed similar thoughts, wondering, “Is it okay to sing this song right now?” There were moments of silence among us. For our generation, SMAP represents a symbol of youth. Because of that, the memories and emotions tied to their songs felt shaken by the recent events, creating a truly indescribable feeling.
Time Might Heal
However, I’ve also found that over time, I gradually accepted various events, including the situation with Noriyuki Makihara and the dissolution of SMAP. Initially, it was hard to listen to their music, and I felt anxious every time a song played, but now I can enjoy them again. So perhaps, in time, my feelings will settle, and there will come a day when I can enjoy their music again. Music is truly fascinating; it can evoke memories or even bring new feelings. When you think about it, it’s natural for past events to influence all of our emotions.
