Question from a reader:
TEX Kato is an amazing person, isn’t he?
Memories of TEX Kato
Recently, I was talking with a friend about TEX Kato. While discussing his TOEIC Super Express series, I realized how fascinating his presence is. I also struggled a bit with learning English, so I have fond memories of being helped by his books. However, I
couldn’t help but laugh at my friend’s comment that he is “just a geek.” It’s true that his translation of “banquet” as “dinner party” is quite an amusing interpretation. If I had been there, I would have felt compelled to say, “No way, that’s a banquet!” These subtle differences in nuance are part of what makes English both interesting and challenging.
Studying English and Some Mishaps
When I was studying English in the past, I often stumbled over the finer points of grammar. For example, during a TOEIC mock test, I had zero confidence, and when I saw the results, I couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow, this is bad!” I still remember the surprised looks from people around me. Eventually, as I continued studying English, I gradually gained some confidence. Using TEX Kato’s books for my studies allowed me to not only enhance my English knowledge but also to feel his personality and humor, making learning enjoyable. There were moments when I couldn’t help but laugh while reading his explanations, creating a sense of studying with a friend.
