Question from a reader:
I’ve been seeing many articles about Matsumoto Hitoshi preparing for his comeback, but when can we actually expect him to return? Is Hamada’s break influencing this as well?
Considering Matsumoto Hitoshi’s Comeback
Recently, there has been a lot of news about Matsumoto Hitoshi preparing for his return. I have to admit, I have been greatly influenced by
his comedy and always look forward to it. His unique perspective, especially in combination with Hamada, is simply the best. As mentioned in the comments, it seems that there were initial plans for him to resume activities on a new platform by March, but the fact that Hamada is taking a break is a bit concerning. There’s information suggesting that Hamada might return in about three months, so perhaps we could see some movement as early as June. However, considering that the “new platform” is likely not television, it does feel a bit sad. I’ve also been revisiting Matsumoto’s past stand-up and talk shows lately, and their exchanges are genuinely hilarious; I find myself laughing every time. Especially their old show “Downtown no Gotsu Ee Kanji” still feels fresh today. I believe the free style they had back then has influenced current comedy.
The Impact of Hamada and Expectations for His Return
With Hamada taking a break, Matsumoto’s comeback might be slightly delayed, but as we wait for Hamada’s recovery, I’m excited to see what new form their comedy will take. Just imagining what new direction their stand-up might go in is thrilling. That said, the backlash when the topic of returning to “Nightscope” came up definitely stirs mixed feelings as a fan. It’s natural for Matsumoto and Hamada’s style to evolve with the times, but as a long-time fan, I do feel a bit uneasy about certain aspects. Personally, I’ve been quite busy with parenting lately, which has led to fewer opportunities to see live stand-up like I used to. However, having time to relax and watch comedy at home is essential amidst parenting. Seeing my child laugh brings me a lot of joy. What do you all think about Matsumoto and Hamada’s comeback? Please share your thoughts on recent comedy moments that made you laugh or any memorable stand-up experiences in the comments!
