Reader’s Question:
I really loved the original HUNTER×HUNTER anime; it was my favorite, and I used to rent it often. I especially liked Killua. I’ve seen a few episodes of the new series that have come out, but I found the animation style a bit off-putting—it felt too childlike to me.
The aura and voices seemed different, and the background music and theme song didn’t resonate with me, so I haven’t continued watching it and don’t know anything about the plot. Recently, I heard that Gon and Killua have separated, and now I’m really curious about it. As a fan of the original, can I still enjoy the new series? Also, isn’t the new series about ten years old now? Is there a chance it could be rebooted from the beginning again?
Reflections on HUNTER×HUNTER: A Tale of Two Series
As a fan of the original HUNTER×HUNTER, I can completely understand the mixed feelings surrounding the newer adaptation. There’s something inherently nostalgic about the first series, isn’t there? The animation style, the voice acting, and even the background music created a unique atmosphere that resonated deeply with fans. I vividly remember binge-watching episodes late into the night, clutching my snacks as I rooted for Gon and Killua through every challenge they faced. One of my favorite moments was when Killua finally opened up about his family, revealing the depth of his character. It was during those scenes that I found myself reflecting on my own relationships, and I dare say, the emotional weight of the storytelling was a significant part of why I loved the series so much. Now, transitioning to the new series, I can see where some of the hesitation comes from. The animation style does feel a bit more childlike, and I get that it might not resonate with everyone. It’s like trying to enjoy a classic movie that has been remade with a completely different vibe—sometimes it just doesn’t hit the same way. I chuckled to myself when I read about the comments regarding the new voice acting, especially for certain characters like Biscuit. It’s funny how voice actors can change everything; they can either enhance a character’s charm or, in this case, leave fans feeling disappointed. However, I’ve also heard that the new adaptation does a great job of making the story accessible, even for those who haven’t read the manga. It’s like they’ve taken the essence of the original and wrapped it in a more viewer-friendly package. I mean, can you imagine the dynamic scenes of Killua and Gon battling together on screen? That’s a sight worth watching, even if it comes with a few quirks. The reality is that the manga is still ongoing, and it seems unlikely that a complete reboot will happen anytime soon. The pacing and story arcs are tricky, and as many fans know, the source material has its own rhythm that might not lend itself well to frequent adaptations. But who knows? It’s always possible that once the manga catches up, we might see something new emerge. For me, the heart of HUNTER×HUNTER lies in its characters and their journeys. So, I’d encourage anyone who loved the original to give the new series a chance, but perhaps with the understanding that it may not meet the same emotional depth. In the end, what truly matters is our connection to the story and how it influences us. Have any of you felt the same way about adaptations? What moments stood out to you in either series? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments below!
