Is Stockpiled Rice Delicious? Insights on Taste and Shinjiro-san’s Reaction

Question from a reader:
If the stockpiled rice is not tasty, would Shinjiro-san say, “It’s delicious!” and eat it?

Thoughts on the Taste of Stockpiled Rice

Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about stockpiled rice. One question that has come up is whether Shinjiro-san would say “It’s delicious!” if he were to eat it. Having purchased stockpiled rice myself,
I found myself pondering this question.

Memories of Old Rice

Actually, I once bought old rice for stockpiling. It was reasonably priced at 2,000 yen for 5 kg (including tax, 2,160 yen), so I opened it with a bit of excitement. The first bite was nerve-wracking, but I found it to be “perfectly tasty,” which was a relief. Old rice can be surprisingly good! I had a good laugh when my child seriously asked, “Is this different from the rice we usually eat?” I never expected my child to point that out, and I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Children’s perceptions are indeed important.

Shinjiro-san’s Reaction

Now, if Shinjiro-san were to find the rice unappetizing, would he still say “It’s delicious!”? Well, as a politician, he likely wants to project a positive image to the public, so there might be instances where he would do that. However, I’m curious whether he truly finds it delicious or if he is just saying it. Honestly, I’m someone who tends to be quite straightforward about the taste of food. It feels awkward to force myself to say something is delicious when it’s not. So, I do wonder how Shinjiro-san really feels about it.
