Recently, news broke that Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru announced a reduction in the consumption tax. However, since today is April Fool’s Day, it’s natural to wonder if
it might be a joke. While discussing this with friends, one of them laughed and said, “I can’t believe he would really reduce taxes; it sounds like something out of a comedy movie.”

Afterward, I heard a lot of different opinions. Many people were critical of Prime Minister Ishiba, saying things like, “He’s just telling big lies!” It’s true that politicians often make unbelievable statements, especially before elections, where anything goes.
