There are various opinions circulating regarding the recent problems at Fuji TV. While many believe that Masahiro Nakai is partially to blame, I would like to take
a moment to reflect on whether that’s truly the case.
Fundamental Organizational Issues
First of all, I think it’s unfair to solely blame Nakai. Certainly, he has some responsibility, and given his influential position in the media, he should be mindful of his actions. However, the problems at Fuji TV cannot be attributed to him alone. I believe the long-standing culture and structure of the organization have contributed to the current situation. Having worked part-time at a judicial scrivener’s office, I can attest to the significant impact that workplace atmosphere and the attitude of supervisors have on employee behavior. I think Fuji TV is also in need of a cultural transformation within its organization.
Nakai’s Position and Apology
There is talk that Nakai paid 95 million yen in a settlement to the victim. While this may be a form of resolution, his position is quite complex. Given the emphasis on the governance issues within the current management of Fuji TV, it seems somewhat unfortunate that he is being made the scapegoat. Considering the contributions he has made in the past, it evokes a sense of sadness. In my own university life, I’ve interacted with various people, and I’ve found that good individuals can sometimes find themselves in challenging environments, leading to unexpected troubles. Nakai may also have been influenced by those around him.
