The Importance of the Electoral System
While discussing this incident with a friend, he mentioned, “The electoral system is the foundation of democracy.” I completely agree. When elections can be held freely, our voices can be heard, and any violence against this process can be seen as an act that shakes the very foundation of democracy. However, I find it questionable that Mr. Tachibana was campaigning for the Chiba Prefectural Governorship while engaging in activities in Hyogo and Osaka, which seem unrelated. He himself has stated that he is “not aiming for election,” and it appears that increasing his visibility and making money could be his primary motivations.
