Question from Readers:
How long would it take to repay 2.6 billion yen if I pay 100,000 yen each month? I’m struggling with the calculations.
Repaying 2.6 Billion Yen is a Terrifying Thought
While chatting with friends, the topic came up about how long it would take to repay 2.6 billion yen if I paid 100,000 yen a month. Initially, I thought, “Oh, that’s easy!” but when I did the math, the numbers were truly overwhelming. In one year, that’s 1.2 million yen; in 100 years, 120 million yen; in 200
years, 240 million yen; and astonishingly, in 1,000 years, 2.4 billion yen! That’s just not feasible within a human lifetime.
It’s Not a Realistic Scenario, but It Makes You Think
Hearing this made me laugh at first, but it also brought a tinge of sadness. After all, that’s not an amount you can realistically repay, and if you could, you wouldn’t have taken on such debt in the first place. It reminded me of a friend who once said, “When I tried to turn my luck around through gambling, it only led me to hell.” Gambling can really make you lose your cool in a moment of excitement, so it’s important to be careful. Whenever discussions about debt come up, it’s hard not to think about those who blame others for their situations. Especially when someone uses their low salary as an excuse for getting into gambling, I can’t help but find that a bit ridiculous. Honestly, blaming others for your choices is a troubling mindset.
A Small Life Lesson
Talking about these issues makes you reflect on how you spend money and the risks of debt. Now that I’m married and have children, I feel the need to save for the future even more. I definitely don’t want my kids to ask, “Dad, why don’t we have any money?” Recently, I came home a bit too early and ended up eating all the snacks in the fridge, which made me realize that even small mistakes can add up to poor planning. It’s easy to waste money on little things. In closing, if anyone else has had similar experiences or interesting stories about money, I would love to hear about them in the comments! I think sharing our mistakes can help us all learn from each other.
