Reader’s Question:
I’ve heard a lot of people saying that baseball is ruining anime, but I wonder if shows like Inuyasha or Detective Conan were ever interrupted for baseball games. I don’t remember TV Tokyo airing baseball, and I recall those shows being on schedule. I’m turning 27 this year.
Baseball and
Anime: A Nostalgic Reflection
So, I was chatting with a friend about anime the other day, and the topic of baseball interrupting our beloved shows came up. It got me thinking back to my childhood in Osaka and the weekends spent glued to the TV, eagerly waiting for the next episode of “Inuyasha” or “Detective Conan.” Those were the days when the most stressful thing on my mind was whether Kagome would find the next shard or if Conan would crack the case before dinner. I remember being so excited to watch “Inuyasha” that I would often set up my snacks way too early—like, I’m talking popcorn, chips, and even some mochi, all while trying to avoid my parents’ nagging about keeping the living room clean. And of course, the moment the theme song would start, I’d be completely absorbed, forgetting all about my snacks until I’d hear a rustle and realize my little sibling had devoured half of them! Now, regarding the whole baseball debate, I can see where the confusion comes from. Shows like “Inuyasha” and “Detective Conan” aired on Mondays, which meant they were pretty safe from any baseball interruptions. I mean, how lucky were we that our favorite shows had a clear schedule? But as my friend pointed out, those Monday holidays could be a real bummer! I can just imagine the collective groan of fans when baseball took over the airwaves instead of our much-anticipated episodes. It’s funny how things have changed. Nowadays, it feels like there’s a constant battle between sports and anime on TV. I can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic for the simpler days when we just had to worry about which show came on next without any interruptions. So, what about you? Did you have any favorite shows that were interrupted by sports? Or maybe you have some funny snack stories from your anime binge-watching sessions? I’d love to hear your experiences! Let’s reminisce together in the comments!
