Exploring the Fujii Generation: The Impact of Fujii Sota on Young Shogi Players

Question from Readers:
Is there a term “Fujii Generation” for the generation of Fujii Sota? Just like the “Habu Generation” that existed during the era of Habu Yoshiharu, I’m curious if there is a term referring to the young shogi players influenced by Fujii.

Is There a Fujii Generation?

Recently, I’ve been thinking about Fujii Sota, and I couldn’t help but wonder if the term “Fujii Generation” exists. Since there was the term “Habu Generation” during Habu Yoshiharu’s time, I thought there might be some name for the young shogi players
influenced by Fujii.

The Presence of Ito Takumi

While one player, Ito Takumi, may not be enough to define a “generation,” he is indeed challenging Fujii, and his presence is significant. There’s hope that with his success, new young shogi players may emerge, and I’m excited to see the shogi world continue to thrive! So far, the expression that this is a generation where “if you can’t beat Fujii Sota, there’s nothing for the future” is quite an interesting one.

A Generation Growing with Shogi

I’ve dabbled in shogi a bit myself, and watching those tense matches really conveys how much effort the young players are putting in. In fact, when I play shogi with friends, we start off excited, but it often ends with me saying, “I can’t do this anymore!” and running off to snacks instead. I truly admire their level of concentration.

Anticipation for the Future

I hope that more young shogi players referred to as the Fujii Generation will emerge, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they will invigorate the shogi world. As a shogi fan, I can’t wait to witness their growth! So, what do you all think about Fujii Sota and shogi? If you have any episodes from your own shogi experiences or recommendations for shogi players, please let me know in the comments!
