Question from a reader:
Do you think fans and talents are similar? I resonate with Nishiwaki-san’s opinion. My sister particularly likes Nakai-kun as her second favorite in SMAP (her number one is Kusanagi-kun), and she keeps saying about the recent incident, “Maybe she liked Nakai-kun more? Nakai-kun wouldn’t be the one to initiate anything,” which is a bit unsettling. I wonder
if there really are women in their twenties who are attracted to men in their fifties.
The Distance Between Fans and Talents
Recently, I was talking with friends about the relationship between fans and talents, and I had a thought. Especially when my friend’s favorite talent gets into some trouble, I’ve found it amusing to see her either defend or criticize them. It’s almost as if there are romantic feelings involved. As someone who enjoys comedy, I often find myself emotionally invested in various talents and comedians. When watching a manzai performance, their interactions and relationships sometimes feel like those of family or friends. In such moments, it’s only natural to become curious about their private lives and relationships.
The Incident with Nakai-kun and Kusanagi-kun
Your sister’s enthusiasm for Nakai-kun is quite amusing! There’s definitely a blind spot when it comes to favorite talents. When I discuss SMAP with friends, we often get excited saying things like, “Nakai-kun wouldn’t really invite anyone,” or “Kusanagi-kun’s kindness is the best.” However, age differences can make it tricky to figure out how to feel about such situations. Personally, I find older people attractive at times, but I also think it’s a strange phenomenon when younger people are drawn to older individuals. It might be a strong sense of admiration in a way.
The Depth of Fan Psychology
The relationship between fans and talents is genuinely profound. Since becoming a parent, I’ve found myself showing my child the routines of talents and comedians more often. Watching their cheerful performances lifts my spirits, and it’s enjoyable for my child as well. Those moments are so delightful that I can’t help but laugh. However, sometimes that fan psychology can take a distorted form. Especially when issues arise, fan reactions can be both amusing and a bit frightening. Observing my friends’ reactions often makes me think, “Ah, so this is how it feels.”
