Question from a Reader:
Who do you think has the lowest evaluation among the past Prime Ministers? Please include Prime Minister Ishiba in your thoughts.
Evaluation of Past Prime Ministers
Recently, I’ve been pondering who among the past Prime Ministers is considered the least favorable and how people feel about this, especially when including Prime Minister Ishiba. Opinions are likely to
vary. As someone studying law, I would like to touch on this topic from a historical perspective as well.
Influence of Hideki Tojo
It’s understandable that there are many opinions regarding Hideki Tojo. The fact that his dictatorial politics resulted in the loss of 3.1 million lives is something that cannot be justified, regardless of the reasons given. I remember being shocked by his speeches in history class. What stood out to me was his decision to send students to the battlefield even when defeat was inevitable. It evokes a profound sense of callousness. The youth of that era must have dreamed of the future, yet their paths were closed off by his will.
Evaluation of Prime Minister Ishiba
On the other hand, opinions regarding Prime Minister Ishiba are divided. His political stance and remarks often provoke mixed reactions. While working part-time at a judicial scrivener office, I once discussed politics with a colleague. He supported Ishiba, stating, “His sincerity comes through.” Indeed, there are moments when he seems to lack the typical “performance” of a politician. However, many people have doubts about his specific policies.
My Thoughts and Feelings
Whenever I reflect on this theme, I find myself experiencing a mix of emotions. It is often said that history repeats itself, and I often feel pained by the current reality of not applying the lessons learned from the past. Since politics directly impacts human lives, I believe that every voice matters. That said, when discussing politics, I often find myself getting heated. Although I wish to think calmly at times, my emotions can sometimes take over. As I reflect on this side of myself, I hope to express my opinions more rationally next time.
