Question from a reader:
“I’ve heard that Myakumyaku is cute, but specifically, what makes it cute?”
Where Does Myakumyaku’s Cuteness Lie?
Recently, while having tea with a friend, the topic of Myakumyaku came up. He posed the simple question, “I’ve heard that Myakumyaku is cute, but specifically, what makes it cute?” I couldn’t help but laugh. Indeed, Myakumyaku’s design is quite
unique at first glance, almost eccentric.
Impressions of the Design
When I first saw Myakumyaku, I thought to myself, “Is this really cute?” The bulging eyes gave it a slightly scary impression. However, as my friend mentioned, even Sentokun initially received negative feedback, but once it was three-dimensional, it exuded charm. When I saw a three-dimensional Myakumyaku, I suddenly noticed a strange allure. As a parent, it warmed my heart to see my child looking at Myakumyaku and saying, “How cute!” Children see things with pure eyes and might be sensing something that we adults overlook.
Commonalities with Comedy
As someone who enjoys comedy, I feel that Myakumyaku’s quirky design resonates with the unique characters often found in stand-up and comic routines. Laughter often arises from the unusual. Especially those moments with friends when we watch comedy together and say, “This is a weird character, but somehow it’s funny!” are incredibly enjoyable.
What Do You Think?
Where do you find the cuteness in Myakumyaku? Or do you still find it a bit creepy? I would love to hear your experiences of rediscovering things through a child’s perspective or stories about other interesting characters! I’m looking forward to chatting with everyone in the comments!
