Question from a Reader:
When thinking of geniuses, names like Shohei Ohtani, Yuzuru Hanyu, Naoya Inoue, and Sota Fujii come to mind. Are there any others we should know about?
Stories of Geniuses
Hello! Recently, I had a conversation with a friend about geniuses. While Shohei Ohtani, Yuzuru Hanyu, Naoya Inoue, and Sota Fujii immediately come to mind, there are so
many other talented individuals out there. When Kei Nishikori’s name was mentioned, we both exclaimed, “Absolutely!” His tennis is truly amazing, and I am moved every time I watch his matches. I never really considered whether athletes could be called geniuses, but witnessing their performances really strikes me with their hard work and talent. Sota Fujii’s shogi is also incredible. It’s astonishing how someone so young possesses such deep strategic thinking. Watching shogi matches can feel overwhelming, but I am always amazed by each of his moves.
Crossing Generations
We also discussed geniuses from older generations. The conversations about Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui were lively, and when names like Yoshiharu Hanyu and Ryuichi Sakamoto came up, it felt a bit like watching an old movie. Talking about Takeshi Kitano and Sadaharu Oh felt like sharing nostalgic stories, which was enjoyable. When I bring up stories from an older generation, I often find myself nervously asking, “Do you know this?” Sometimes, seeing my friends’ faces when they say, “I don’t know that,” can be a bit embarrassing, but it also makes for great memories.
Who is Your Genius?
Now, who comes to your mind when you think of a genius? I have surprising talents among my friends as well. For instance, one of my friends is excellent at cooking, and every time I taste his food, I’m amazed, thinking, “This tastes professional!” I would love to hear about the geniuses in your life too. Next time, please share your thoughts and memories about geniuses in the comments! Any stories are welcome. I look forward to hearing from you!
